FOXTON NOTES.
(From Our Own Correspondents
The Shannon-Foxton road, although still very bad, is in-a much better state of repair than it has been for some time. A deviation has been made at the bridge, and Wore long tho road should be in good oragain. The excessive wet weather has impered improvements a great deal. The Cevin-Foxton road is almost impassable. ){ late sand has been carted and spread on Jiis road at a depth of about a foot. The Mayor (Mr J, Chrystall) is at present away in Christchurch, where ho is attending the Municipal Conference, which commenced yesterday. Whitebait, which was making its appearance in small quantities a. short while ago, has again disappeared with the "fresh" in the Manawatu. The duck shooting Beason ends in less than two more weeks. This season has been an exceptionally poor one locally, owing to the excessive rains and the amount of flood water lying about. The only good bags procured were obtained at the opening of the ■eason. Very little shooting has been done since then. .... Frost fish are still being picked up on the southern ocean beach. It is probable that they will disappear again, however, with the change in weather. Mild influenza is fairly prevalent locally.
The following appeared in our Second Edition of yesterday.
