TERTIARIES GRAND DANCE.

A GREAT SUCCESS.

Tho Tertiaries' grand dance attracted a very large attendance last night, in spite of the inclement weather. Over 140 couples took part in tho dancing, which was obviously much enjoyed. Perhaps the hard weather conditions outside tended, to lend additional splendour to the pleasing picture of many of Palmerston North's young ladies and gentlemen gaily attired, gliding graceFully and happily over tho wide expanse of the Zealandia's shining floor. Tho picture last night was indeed one of which Palmerston North might.be justly ' proud. Tho programme was pleasingly interspersed with exhibition dancing by Miss Boyd and a duet by Miss V. Healy and Master D. O'Brien. Tho dancing competition was won by Mr Waldron and Mrs Wood (Palmerston North). Mr Oliver and Miss Smith (Ashhurst) secured the second prize. The judge, Mr Belfit, whose decision was received Avith applause, remarked on the very high standard of the waltzing and stated that very littlo separated those placed first and second. Mr Smith, as M.C., added distinction and pleasure to the evening's enjoyment. Mr C. Purcell (hon. sec.) thanked all who contributed to tho success of tho evening. 'An orchestra of ten instruments scored a big success and as a result were recalled for an extra hour. Extras during supper were played by Miss K. Hughes.
