GOLF.
NEW ZEALAND ASSOCIATION.
The monthly meeting of the council of the New Zealand Kolf Association was held on Monday afternoon at the office of the secretary,' Mr G. 0. Sutton. There were present: Messrs R. C. Kirk (chairman), H. R. Balneavis, A. D. S. Duncan, W. E. A. Gill, M. AV. Horton, and J. B. Mac Ewan. Two members of the Professional Golfers Association wrote with regard to the question of amateur golfers being directly concerned in the sale of golf materials m competition with the professionals. After a full discussion it was resolved that, whilst the council sympathises with them in the faot that they have competition of this kind, it is of the opinion that there is no breaking of the amateur status m the oircumstances quoted in the letter.. Raetihi Golf Club wrote enquiring regarding several points with a view to arriving at a bettor system of handicapping A full reply was drafted by the chairman, and for the -informaton of clubs would.also like tins advice the reply will be embodied in the minutes of the m Maungakiekie Golf Club wrote to the effect that it would hold a local tournament, but open to all rnernkers of recognised clubs, on August 30th and 31st and September Ist, and incuded. m the programme would bo a championship event over 36 holes for which a valuable silver cup had been donated. Mr J. Hislop, of Messrs Walker and Hall, Auckland, wrote with reference to the famous "Walker Cup," an international golf trophy winch has just been captured by the Americans in Engand He has kindly offered to send photographs of the trophy to the leading clubs in New Zealand and his offer has been accepted.
