SPECIAL RATING AREA.
APPLICATION FOR EXEMPTION. COMPROMISE EFFECTED. Ad. application for exemption from a ipocial rating area in the district of the Oroua Drainage Board was heard before Mr J. L, Stout, S.M., this morning. The objection was made by Clement Clavey, who stated that he would not derive any benefit from the proposed drainage works for which a loan had been raised and for the repayment of which he was being rated.Mr Cooper, who represented the board, said a loan had been raised under subsection 3 of the Local Bodies Loans Act. 1913 for the drainage of some property. The’owners of the properties which were to derive the benefit from the scheme Were being rated by the board under a special ra After hearing both parties, the Magistrate effected a compromise and graded the land second-class, thereby reducing the rates vf the objector.
