REWARDS FOR BRAVERY.

MEDALS FOR CONSTABLES. Notification was received yesterday by the Inspector of Police at Wanganui (Mr W. Fouhy) that the King’s police medal had been awarded to Constables R. J. Wilson and P. J. O’Donoghuc. The decoration is only awarded for exceptional courage and skill displayed by policemen or firemen fe the Empire, and the two constables have received the award as the outcome of the arrest of two armed shopbreakers at Wanganui in May of last year. On that occasion the two constables wero summoned to Mr J. A. Thomson’s store in the Avenue, and effected the arrest of two men named Donovan and Allen'despite the fact that the men used firearms. The two shopbreakers distinguished themselves some time later by breaking- out of Wanganui gaol, Donovan being subsequently arrested at Morton and Allen at Palmerston North. Both later were sentenced at the Wanganui Supreme Court to 15 years’ imprisonment.
