RIVER PROTECTION.
MANAWATU BOARD’S ENGINEER, MR F. C. HAY APPOINTED, f A special meeting of the ManawatuOroua River Board was held last evening when applications for the position of resident engineer to the board were considered. There were 25 applicants and the board decided to appoint P Mi' P. C. Hay, of Wellington, to the position. Mr Hay is recognised as an eminent authority on river protection work. He was a member of the commission appointed by the Government in 1907 to report on the Manawatu and Oroua rivers, and in consequence of his experience ' has an intimate knowledge of his new district.
