SLUGGISH RIVER BOARD.

The trouble caused to the Manawatu* Oroua River Board through the growth of willows in the Oroua river was ex* plained to the board by Mr R. T. Belly chairman of the former body. Ea made reference to the opinion of a solicitor on the power's of river board? in compelling owners of land adjacent to the banks of the river to clear the obstruction. His board, he said, wished to know whether, in tho event of any trouble arising regarding the removal of willows interfering with its riven work, the Sluggish River Dramago Board, with its greater powers, would co-operate. “You. have wider powers than wo have,” he slated, “and we would like your assurance that you \wnt co-operate.” The chairman: Tho willows must oa kept out of that liver. Mr Bell stressed the need for protect* ing the lands in the area under review from flooding, and the board agreed to assist the body which he represented. Drain cleaning tenders accepted were: E. Smith, No. 1 Drain, 100 chains at 2s 9d per chain; No. 6 Drain, /o chains at 2s 9d; Algar Ross, improvement'Lane’s Drain, 21 chains at 14s 6d.
