STATE TRAWLING.
MANAGER TO BE DISMISSED. SYDNEY, Aug. 30. The report of the commissioner who inquired into tho State trawling industry, states that Sunnnergrcene, tho manager of the industry, in entering into an agreement for the supply of coal for a period of five years, was guilty of such gross negligence us to raise a suspicion whether it was only duo to negligence that tho agreement was executed in the present form. The report proceeds: “However, there is no evidence to show that tho agreement was fraudulent. At time of the agreement coal of similar or better quality could bo obtained six shillings a ton cheaper than was provided for, which would have amounted to about £IB,OOO loss cost to the Government.” The report states that Summergrecno had no written authority to incur any expenditure on behalf of the Government until nearly nine months after lie signed tho coal agreement, when ho received authority to incur an expenditure of £IOO. The Public Service Board considered the report, and recommended Summorgrceno’s dismissal. Mr Okkes (Chief Secretary) states that the Government has decided to dismiss Summergrecno at the end of August, and has arranged for a full inquiry into tho various aspects of tho industry.— Press Association.
