A London cablegram states that M. L Poincare and his party have returned to * Paris. Sir T. Henley, Minister of Works in the Now South Wales Cabinet, has resigned owing to ill-health, tearing a nervous breakdown. A visitor to the National Dairy Show "is Mr D. F. Wilbur, American Consul-General in New Zealand. The lion. W. Nosworthy will not now ho able to attend the show. Mrs Corny ns, a member of the Gonvillo School Committee., Wanganui, who is about, to visit California, was entertained by the school stall and presented with a parting gift. Dr. and Sirs Blakeslee, of the State of New York, are touring New Zealand. Yortt, in responding, said it grieved him very much to sever his active connect ion with Court -Manawatu. Several toasts wore honoured; and songs were rendered by Bros. Fabling. Moores, J. B. Rosauoski and R. Burnett. Bro. 11. Fletcher officiated at (he piano. The “Boys’ Jazz Baud’’ was in attendance and rendered several musical items, which were much appreciated. A cornet solo was given by Master R. Mitchell and a xylophone solo by Master Gedson. Members of the legal profession gathered in the Supreme Court library yesterday for the purpose of making a presentation to Mr E. W. Cave, clerk of the Court, who lias been promoted to a. similar position in Christchurch. On behalf of the_ Palmerston North Law Society, the president (Mr P. Lines) handed Mr Gave a handsome silver spirit kettle, appropriately inscribed. The presentation, said Mr limes, carried with it the very best wishes ot the members of the society, who sincerely hoped that Mr Cave and his family would enjoy every prosperity in the south. As clerk of the Court, Mr Cave had at all times proved himself to ho a capable and courteous officer, ever ready to lend assist - ance whore necessary. The solicitors of Palmerston North would have been pleased to have Mr Cave remain in the town, hut they recognised that his departure meant advancement, and they did not. doubt that lie would prove himself cipially capable in Christchurch. The recipient returned suitable thanks, Mr Cave i will leave for the south at the end of the present month.
