MAGISTRATE’S COURT,

TO-DAY’S CASES. Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., _ presided at tho Magistrate’s Court this morning. Daniel Donnelly and James Buiek were each convicted and lined .Li, in default 7 days’ imprisonment, for having committed indecent acts in a public place. Tho former was also fined 10s and the latter os for drunkenness. One first offending inebriate, who did not appear, was convicted and fined the amount of his bail, 10s. Another first offender was convicted and fined ds.

Charles Ocean Thompson, a statutory second offender, well up in years, who appeared with a broken shoulder, was convicted and discharged, with a warning not to a open r again. YOUNG -MAX IN TROUBLE.

An order was made prohibiting the publication of the name of a young man. who pleaded guilty to a charge of failing to account for the sum of id Us. Air Ongloy, who appeared for the accused, slated that the case was an 'unfortunate one. The accused was a steady, hard-working young fellow, who had taken a position as a motordriver at id per week, with the promise of a bonus. The bonus had never been paid, and the accused bad boon unable to properly support himself. He had spent a portion of some money •entrusted to him, and had been unable to repay it. Ho bad afterwards walked to Wellington and had obtained a position where ho worked for bis personal maintenance till such time as a better position carrying wages was open to him. Mr Ouglov asked that accused be admitted to probation. In answer to a query by the Magistrate, Senior-Sergeant Eraser stated that, as far as the police knew, the accused had previously borne a good character. His Worship said ho would admit accused to probation for a period of twelve months, on condition that the amount was repaid. MISCELLANEOUS. John Scliwass was fined 40s, and costs 7s, for being in possession of an unregistered shotgun and rifle. For carrying a passenger on the roar of a motor-cycle, Lawrence G. Rose was fined 10s, with costs 7s. Austen Tonlan was lined us for riding a bicycle cm the footpath. Herbert Hepworth, lor whom Mr Hurley appeared, was fined for selling a poison without the same being entered in the poisons book.
