OBITUARY.

MR HENRY COLES

There passed away at his residence. Broad street, I'almerstou North, yesterday morning, a well-known and highly respected resident of Palmerston North in tho person of .Mr Henry Coles. The deceased gentleman. who was one of the early settlers in this town, hud been seriously ill lor some time and his demise was not unexpected. His end, however, came without pain. The late .Mr Coles was born in Devon 67 years ago, and arrived in the Dominion when he was 19 years of age. Prior to leaving the Old Country ho had been a member of the 2nd Life Guards, stationed in London, lie look up his residence in Napier, where he staved for a few years before removing to Canterbury. There he resided for ten or eleven years, when he came to Palmerston North and commenced his well-known business of a music dealer in premises in Broadway. Later he transferred to the present site in the Square, the building on which bears his Maine. Ten years ago the deceased gentleman retired from active participation in the business, and since then ho had made several trips to America. Tie was an accomplished musician, and possessed a most kind-hearted and generous disposition, doing a great amount of good in a quiet way. Tho late -Mr Coles was a keen bowler, being a member of tho Palmerston North Bowling Club, and he was one of a party of bowlers who loured New South Wales and Queensland eight years ago In semi-public aft airs he look much interest, being a member several local institutions, including tho A.M.O.A. and the Operatic Society, lie was also a Hie member of the Palmerston North 1\ orking,nen's Chib. Ills death will he regretted by a very wide circle of friends. -Mr Coles leaves a widow and one son —Mr W . I olos—and two daughters—Mesdaincs S. Bayliss and IT. Collinson—all of whom reside in Palmerston North, and 10 whom sincere sympathy has been extended in their sad bereavement.
