A FRENCH SOLDIER'S HONOUR.
DRAMATIC EPISODE OF THE WAR.

A dramatic story of a French soldier’s honour, and its vindication after death, is told by the Paris correspondent of the Times. In the course of the war an infantryman, Desire Maillot, was sentenced to death, in contumaciam, for deserting his post in the trenches on the Marne and going over to the enemy, in 19lb his wife died of shame and grief, and his two children were thrown on the parish for relief.
Recently Maillet’s body was discovered among others, and it wasionnd h.o had died lighting at Aubcrive, on the Marne. His body was buried on Saturday in his native village, Checy, with the most marked honours and sympathy. The orphans were present, and the Mayor publicly asked pardon for the injustice that had been done to a soldier of France.
