DUTY ON IMPORTED WOOL.

Received March 20, 9.20 a.m. NEW YORK. March 17. The Federal authorities tire investigating an alleged plot to cheat the Government of millions of dollars in unties on wool imported from South .America. It is learned that Iho wool was imported its low grade material for the manufacture of carpets, which are non-dntiable, hut an examination proved that the wool was of the highest quality and duitable at 30 cents per pound. One shipment escaped duty ol 150,000 dollars.—A. and N.Z. cable.
