ASHHURST.
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
The remains of the late Mr Daniel Davis were Interred in the local cemetery on Monday afternoon, a large number of friends attending to pay their last respects. Among the many floral tributes was one from his fellow directors of the Ashhurst Co-operative Dairy Company. Improvements are to lie made to the local police station, and the tender, of .Messrs Clark and Co,, of Palmerston North, has been accepted for the work.
The railway “out” which commences on Monday will do away with the first train from Palmerston arriving hero about 5.15 a.m., and the last (rain to Palmerston leaving here about 10.30 p.m. The 12.15 to Palmerston also disappears. The last train to arrive here from Palmerston will be the one leaving (here at 4.50 p.m. The poor old Pacing Commission, plus the Minister for internal Affairs, had perforce to bow to that mighty factor, public pressure, and the local race meeting will proceed as usual this year, It is to. be hoped,... in the interest of public economy, That the next •“cut” the'Government makes will be in commissions, which are costing (he country fur too much money.
farmers are complaining that the mortality amongst their cows is rather heavy this season.
