“HELP THE MOTHERS.”

A meeting' was hotel at Pohangma last night when a largo-luteiidiuice; of residents showed their desire to assist the “ Help the Mothers Campaign.” Mr. W. Symev (county clerk) occupied the chair and introduced Messrs W. Lints, D, P. Jones and R. S. Watson, who outlined the campaign and its objects. All present then formed themselves into a committee and elected Mr Symes chairmuh. Mr- T). Watson was elected secretary and treasurer. Mrs Culling, Misses Moore, Symes, Stanton, Messrs B. Passey and A. Luinley were elected as an executive committee.' It was decided to arrange for a series of dances, competitions and other attractions. If was further resolved to participate . in ■ the procession, on Saturday ami that not, less than two cars should bo entered, A produce stall was conducted in aid of the funds of the Northern Trenchers in the Square to-day. Mesdamos 1 Sinclair, Bernard and Oakley were in charge, and the array of- tempting cakes, preserves and other edibles found a ready sale.

APPEAL TO OROTJA, Mr J. H. Stevens waited on the Oroua County Council yesterday tu urge the claims of the St. Helen’s Home campaign committee on the Council. He explained wliat wds being done in the way of organisation and the objects ol the home, and asked the Council’s support. He suggested that the Council should call a public meeting and that Councillors should take charge of the organisations in their ridings. The meeting decided that it was a very worthy object, and though ii was considered that organisation would be diflicult in the Oroua district, if was decided to call a public meeting at Hal ccjinbc for next Thursday, when the further steps to lie taken conk! be agreed on.

TRAVELLERS’ MAH CHOIR. Saturday evening next, at the Opera House will see this splendid combination in active operation. The programme to be rendered consists of sixteen items. The choir will render five pan. songs, including ‘“j he Banks of Allan Water” (Button),.and tho celebrated "Viking Song” (Harrison). .The choir’s tonal shading m the former item is nicely employed, whilst the hater is what may lie termed its star item. The Melody Quartette will be responsible for “Reveries” (Storrh) and “Kentucky Babe” (Barnes). Messrs Williams and Robbins will revive that old-time humorous duet, “Tenor and Baritone.” The box plan opened at. Oates’ music stores yesterday, and. judging by the manner in which the seals are being booked n full house is assured. Those desiring to reserve seals should call at Oates’ without delay as telephone messages will not be entertained*

GRAND SACRED CONCERT. The residents of Feilding, Sandon and Marlon districts will lie offered an exceptional musical treat on Sunday when that powerful organisation—the Wellington travellers’ male choir—will render a musical programme at the Feilding racecourse. The choir of some 50 voices is lending its aid to the “Help the Mothers” campaign. It will be supported by ihe Palmerston KoDh Municipal Band. Solos, quartettes and part songs will be given.
