The death of Air A.. McConnolly'an army veteran, 75 years of ago, is announced from Auckland.

The. State Cabinet has. decided to issue an invitation. to luncheon to Lord Northcliffe, states a cablegram, from Sydney. Gagliardi and Harold Smith. Dr. Putnam was to-day granted one month's leave of absence by the .Palmerston North Hospital Board. The doctor intends to proceed to Australia next week. According to a Sydney paper, the late MrT.J. Ryan, acting-leader of the Labour Party in the Federal House, had been in poor health for sonic time prior to Ins death. He had been urged to take a holiday but had consistently refused to do so. Melbourne files to hand state that the remains of the late Mr Howard Vernon, the veteran, actor, were interred in the Brighton Cemetery, close to the grave of Adam Lindsay Gordon, this being the expressed wish of Air Vernon.

Mr W. J. G. Hunt, who died in Wellington this week, was for many years known as “Samoa” Hunt because of the claim made by him to have been the adopted son' of the late Malietoa Talavow, formerly King of Samoa.

Amongst the Vooent appointments of Justices' of the Peace are the following residents of the Manawatu, Wairarapa and Feilding districts : Messrs J. C., Cooper, Mastefton; David Chilis, Kairanga; R. W. Brown, Waiata, Oroua; G. J. Harford, Feilding; A. Lancaster, Kairanga; and W. H. MacKinnon, Palmerston North. Sister Mclntosh, who was formerly on the staff of the Greytown Hospital, and was acting-matron during the illness and after the death ot Matron Lindsay, has died at Invercargill after an operation. Sister Mclntosh resigned from Greytown sonic time ago in view of her approaching marriage, and went down to her home in Southland.

At the advanced age of 98 years, Mr Ralph Grade died on Tuesday at the residence ot his daughter, Mrs Haig, of Edendale,' Auckland. Born in Edinburgh in 1823, he emigrated to Tasmania and came to New Zealand 72 years ago. lie was-all through the ‘.Maori war, and later resided on his,farm at Vvaiuku for many years. _ Of a family of nine, seven are still living, i.nd there are 89 grandchildren and more than 30 great-grandchildren. Mrs Gracie predeceased her husband 20 years ago. Iho Jute Mr Gracie was able to read without glasses right to the last.
