ALLEGATION OF MURDER.
MAORI BEFORE THE COURT. (For Frees Association.) ■; . ROTORUA. April 4. Hakaraia to Kahu, the companion of Patrick Richard Elliott when th© latter wont cn a shooting expedition from which ho did not return, was arrested to-day and brought to Rotorua this afternoon, and charged before Mr Konrick, S.M., with murdering Elliott on or about March 27. No evidence was offered, and accused, was remanded for eight days on the application of Detective Sweeney. Hakaraia is a sturdy Maori of middle height, his countenance expressing boldness and determination.
SEARCH FOR MISSING MAN. Despite continued search no trace has been found of Patrick Richard Elliot, the foreman platelayer, who disappeared from Ongaroto at the beginning of last week So keen is the interest taken in the matter that practically the whole of tho residents of tho township of Mokai, some seven miles away, went to Ongaroto on Sunday to participate in tho search. 'Dragging operations have been proceeding practically twelve hours a dav, two boats being at work, but no traco'has' been found of the missing man. :; The district, which’ is-heavv-bush country, has been diligently searched without result.
