ISLAMIC UNREST.

ARAB NATIONAL MOVEMENT.

HEADWAY IN MESQPOTAMIA

By Electric Telecrach.^— Copyright. Received August 11, 9.10 a.m. DELHI, August 10. The Khalifat committee of India, for organising opposition to the ,Turkish Peace Treaty was refused bv the Government passports for a deputation it proposed to send to Mesopotamia, Hcdjaz, and other Islamic countries, in view of tho unrest prevalent in these areas. Investigation shows that the present disturbances in Mesopotamia are due to the Sherifian propaganda directed from _ the borders of tho new Arab effectively seconded by Turkish agents operating from Kurdistan. , , , , . The Arab national movement is making great headway among j Mesopotamian notables, particularly in Bagdad, which now supplies Damascus with some of its most conspicuous agitators. . Details from Bagdad of the murder of the British political officer Captain Corard, outside, of Tabriz, show that his carriage was surrounded by several hundred tribesmen. An escort of Persian sowars fled. Me put up a good fight for nearly two hours, but was finally shot dead. His kit was looted. Owing to the state of public order it is improbable that tho Persian Government will be in a position to adoquatoly punish the tribes concerned. (A* and N.Z. cable.)
