DEPARTURE OF AMUNDSEN.

Received August 10, 9.30 a.m. NOME (Alaska), August 8. Amundsen sailed on Saturday. His proposed course is west of Wraugel Island toward the Siberian Islands, keeping in the open water until a favourable place is found to strike directly north, probably in the vicinity of the foundering of the Jeannette. He hopes to gain two years by this means. Tho Jeannette was lost in drifting from Wrangel Island to Jeannette Island.—(A', and N.Z. cable.)
