The town of Couzetlan was destroyed by Saturday’s earthquake. A thousand are dead. The entire garrison of Teocelo was killed. A dozen towns in Vera Cruz State were partly or totally destroyed. The village of Calcahualoo was engulfed, with numbers of inhabitants. At San Juan and Coscomatepec many unidentified corpses float in a sulphurous stream.
