It is now regarded as practically certain that tho Government s offer will bo referred back to the negotiating committee, with instructions, to re-open negotiations with the Government. Meanwhile the Minors’ Federation Executive is sitting in London, considering the question of a new wages demand by the miners, in consequence of tho owners’ groat profits on exported coal. Mr ’lhomas announced that tho delegates wore overwhelmingly tho acceptance of the oft v r. THE MARINE ENGINEERS’ HOLD-UP. Australian-New Zealand Cable Association SYDNEY. Jan. 9. Tho conference between the engineers and shipowners is fixed to be held at Melbourne on Monday. ; The marine stewards’ demand for improved wages and conditions will also be considered at the conference.
