The circumstances -were somewhat peculiar. The youth appeared to be infatuated with a young woman, and had informed her that if shie did not respond he would shoot himself. On. December 19 he attended a dance, and the young .lady was also present, but she was attended by another man. On the following morning McManaway was despondent, and refused to have breakfast, giving as a reason that he was not well'. 'His employer invited him to go to Blenheim in a motor car, and •McManaway said that he thought he 'would, a! Httle later he was seen going into a shed, and about two hours.later ■ho was found hanging by the neck,

unite dead. It appears- that the man secured a rope from a tree close by, and passed this over a beam in the shed about 10ft from the ground. There was a running noose at one end of the rope, which McManaway placed round his neck, and the other end of the rope had been fastened to a stout wooden pin in ; an upright post. He must have jumped off a horse stall about 4J feet from the I ground, for when the body was found the feet were about three inches from the ground. McManawny had scribbled on the wall in pencil bidding the lady good-bye, and hoping that her lite would be a happy one.
