The appointment of Mr Lennon, a.member of the , Labour Party, as LieutenantGovernor, has produced a scene in the Assembly. Mr Barnes, ex-Treasurer, expressed strong disapproval, on the ground that Lennon had endorsed the disloyal utterances madn bv Cabinet, Mr Barnes adding: "And now. forsooth, he is thrown upon the State as Lieutenant-Governor, on the recommendation of this Government!"' The Chairman ordered Mr Barnes to withdraw the words, but he refused, and was suspended and he left the. House amid uproar, as a protest against stifling the freedom of speech.
