(From Our Own Couhespondent.) OTAKI, Jan. 7. Tim death occurred '• at Palmerston on Tuesday of Mr, Jolni llortou Bills, for manv years a resident of Otaki, and second'son of the late Mr J. R'. Bills. Deceased, who was 52 years of age, lias four brothers—James and Fred (Otaki), Allan (Longburn) and Ernie (Waikanae)—and two sisters—Mesdamcs Taylor and Byles (Wellington). Deceased leaves a family of four young children, Mrs Bills dying at Waii'.'iuiui about two years ago. The body of the hue Mr Bills was buried at Otaki to-day. . . The Hev. Blackburn, of Levin, who intends to take up residence at Te Jlovo, has been made the recipient of a ease oi pipes by Levin friends. The takings at the recent sports at Paraparaumu totalled £IBO, but expenses amounted to £l3O, thus leaving a credit of £SO. which is very gratifying \ boat-load of pleasure-seekers got stranded .on a sandbank at Levin a tew davs ago, and it was some time before they were relieved by Messrs Kilsby Bros, from their unfortunate position. During 1919 there were 62 births, 30 deaths and 26 marriages ■ registered in f ' evi "- . OTAKI, Jan. 3. ,\ "kitchen tea" was tendered to Miss I*. V.U lelaud at Mrs Kilmisler's residence, Otaki railway; on Wednesday, when there, 'vas a large attendance. The gifts were numerous and varied, while the afternoon proved most enjoyable, seven, vocal and instrumental items adding to the harmony of the gathering. Two i<ral residents, accompanied by <l little bov. had an unfortunate experience while motor-cvcling over the Paekakanki Hill on Tuerday owing to the brake ailing 1,, aot. The driver, preferring the lull to •i deep' and dangerous embankment, ran ear up a siding, with tin- rosnit thai it capsized, and turned over tunc. The driver and occupants of the side-ear wore considerably injured, and medical aid was requisitioned. ' but it is pleasing to note that all are new doing well.
