Mr W. H. Bowden, at present on the retired list, lias turned his attention to holi-day-making. During his sojourn in Wellington he visited the Lyall Bay carniVal and competed in the sack race. The event, despite top-notchers who thought, they could not be beaten, he won with ease, and beat Pollock, who had won all similar events. The pace was a cracker, but our local townsman, in sporting parlance, won hands-down. Mr Geo. GlacUin, who has been an outpatient at the Otalci Hospital for some time, leaves in the course of a few, days for the sanatorium at Waipukurau, where ho will undergo treatment. ,' J Sister Pownall, of the Otaki Hospital, is ai present cnjovJiig a well-earned holiday.' Misses MoiienelV (2), of Clareville, sisters to Mrs W. Burns Smith, of Otaki, are at present on a visit to this district. Miss M. aloncrieff leaves to-day for Wanganui on holiday, wbilo'hor sister, after a few days' stav here will journey to Utiku. Mr W." Bassett, of .Hie Otaki Hospital stall', is at present enjoying his annual leave. ■,''•• Sister Popporwell, who has been on a brief visit to Otaki, returned to Wellington on Monday. Dr. and Mrs Patorson, al one time residents of Otaki, spent the New Year holidays at Wanganui.
