Gloaming has again demonstrated that he is an undoubted e.lianipron, and his successes in the Islington Piute and Roval ' Stakes were so easily gained that there is certainly nothing in Now Zealand at the present time capable of extending him (writ* "Whalebone"). The Islington' Plate was looked upon generally as an absolute moral for him, but it was thought he would have a much harder task in the Royal .Stakes, for Humbug, Mborfowl, and Right and Left were considered good, if not exactly champion, two-year-olds. The youngsters, however, might' as well have been home in their stables ■ for all the chance they had of extending Gloaming, and it; was left to the older competitor, Silver Link, to give him even the semblance of a race. Silver Link proved equal to carrying 10.5, and defeated the sprinters over live furlongs, which she left behind in lm. on the second day. but Gloaming had an easy task of' it to defeat, her, and the only regret thai' the present day sportsman has is that he could not see Advance, Bobrikoff, Biplane, Gloaming and Desert Gold meet over a mile, or a mile and a quarter.
