At the Educational Conference to-day Mr R ; J Foss, of Pahiatua, moved, .‘That this institute affirms the principle- that the Education Department should control .all classes of pupils held during schoolvhours. The reference in the remit, was to tic j military training of cadets in schools, when, under.the present regulations, pupils in schools come under the control of the Officials''of .the Defence Department, and the bovs attending drill could.be maikcd absent,‘from school. The general ommou voiced by the delegates vvas that though the representatives of the Defence Department had power to call out pupils in the secondary departments of the schools, as a rule the power was not .exorcised wi hout consideration.
