With eight months of his sentence still unserved, a prisoner named Arthur Patrick McGuire walked out of Lyttelton gaol on New Year’s Day a free ■ man. McGuire, who had lieen sent to prison on a charge of false pretences, went to the assistance of Warder James O’Reilly when the latter was seriously assaulted by Robert. Dickson Warden, another prisoner. The authorities granted his full pardon. Warden was. die prisoner who recently made a scrßational escape from Mount Eden and Lyttelton •gaols.
