' The Prime Minister, accompanied by bis daughter (Miss Massey), passed through Palmerston North this morning on tho way from Auckland to Wellington, and Were met at tho railway station by Mr J. A. Nash, M.P. The many friends of Mr S. R. Lancaster, of Whakaronga, will regret to learn that he has been compelled to enter a private hospital to undergo an operation for appendicitis. Clarkson, of Gisborne, has been promoted to Senior-Sergeant, and will be replaced by Senior-Sergeant W. J. Quinn, now at Wairoa. Senior-Sergeant J. Fitzpatrick will be transferred from , Palmerston North to Wairoa. The death of Mr Cyril Francis Scqboll, a member of the “Diggers’ ” Divisional Concert Party, occurred at Wellington Hospital on Wednesday, after a severe operation. The deceased, who formerly belonged to Plyinpton, Devon, England, served in the ‘New Zealand Expeditionary Force. Being an able reciter, ho soon became known in the New Zealand Division, and delighted many thousands of New Zealand soldiers as a member of the concert party, within the sound of the guns at the front.

Prior to his departure from Grcymouth to take up the position of stationmaster, Mr J. L. Morgan was the recipient of several presentations. The local bowling club presented him with a set of pipes; the Second Division of the local railway staff with a leather portmanteau; the-First Division with a set of bowls, and the townspeople of Grcymouth with a set of pipes. Both Mr and Mrs Morgan wore entertained by the parishioners of Trinity Church at a social, when the former was handed a fountain pen and the latter a vase Speakers testified to the esteem in which Mr and Mrs Morgan were held and to the work done by Mr Morgan as a lay reader and by Mrs Morgan m connection with the choir.
