AUSTRALIAN MEAT TRADE.

The British Dominions Producers’ Association gave_a dinner to Mr Sidney Kidman, the Australian pasfovnlist, who paid a tribute to Sir Thomas Mackenzie’s' efforts to promote the produce trade. His experience and insight, said the speaker, -constituted him one of the host authorities on the subject. . Sir Thomas Mackenzie, in proposing the toast of the Association, said that the meat position was ■ becoming -serious. High prices and restrictions had checked consumptipn and there was a resultant congestion causing a deterioration of the moat. ‘ " .
A COSTLY DETENTION

The- Plymouth Food Committee has protested to - the Food ■ Ministry for detaining tin*. Cormanic there undischarged, with 115,000 ea i cases of Australian mutton and other food. An ofhciul of the Dockers’ Union states that the vessel has burnt, three thousand tons of coal while detained. There.-is sufficient lighterage to land the cargo : and cold .storage' to accommodate three-quarters, of the cargo'. "
