A SERIOUS COLLISION.

Per Press Association. >} INVERCARGILL, Jan. 2. ■A serious motor smash occurred at "Wallacetown yesterday at the intersection of two roads, when cars travelling at, about 25 miles an hour collided, one being turned over three or four times. Fivo of the occupants were injured and removed to the hospital. Eileen Fitzpatrick (four years) sustained a fractured skull; Miss McArthur. (twenty years), a fractured collarbone; J. Purdie, a broken leg; J. Cole, a dislocated arm; and J. H. Thomas, injuries to .his back and shoulders. The condition of tho girl is serious, but the others are not in a dangerous state.

ACCIDENT AT AWAHURI BRIDGE.

When returning to Feildmg from Palmerston North on Wednesday afternoon the steering gear of Mr H. j Speight's motor car failed, and the car ran into a post near tho Awahuri bridge." completely capsizing. There ■were five people in tho car, and they were all thrown clear except one, who was pinned beneath, and had his collarbone fractured. The motor caught fire, and was soon■burning', but Mr Speight quickly released tho unfortunate passenger frorjof";his'- serious predicament. Another rriair received severe injuries to his head, and was sent to a private hospital in Feuding. The others escaped with minor injuries. The car was completely-destroyed.
