Mr J. O’Donovan, Commissioner of Police, is at present in the South Island inspecting the southern police stations. Mr Thomas Thompson, an,old resident of Patca. died recently at the age of 68 years. Deceased was born at Durham, Kngland, and came to therj Dominion thirty j ears ago. Mr G. Mansoii, Now Zealand Government Agent in Melbourne, arrived in Wellington by the AJanuka, and will spend bis annual vacation in New Zealand, visiting Palmerston North. Deceased was.a member of the Wanganui Comity 'Council for many years, and some time ago contested the Wanganui seat tor the Reform Party. Mr Henry Newman, of ,the well known Nelson mail coaching firm, died at his residence in Bright water last week, at the. age of 69. He Was born at Spring Brook, Nelson. His eldest son married a daughter ol the late Air James Colvin-, M.P., Westport.
