VICE-REGAL LODGE ATTACKED.
AN OFFICER AND A CIVILIAN
KILLED,
By Electric Telegraph-—Copyright. • Australian-New Zealand Cable Association Received December 29, 9.10 a.m. LONDON. Dec. 28. Twelve men attacked the Vice-Regal lodge at Dublin this morning. 'An officer and two of the guards replied with firearms. The former and a civilian were shot dead. The latter belonged to the attackers. Four men were arrested on suspicion. While leaving Phoenix Park the attackers fired from the main road a quarter of a mile distant. The dead attacker was dressed m an old military uniform His body was
riddled with bulhts. The Evening Standard's Dublin correspondent says Lord French is convinced the first step towards the', restoration of normal conditions in Ireland is to deal with the intimidating forces. It is reported th.it action will shortly bo taken to arrest every activo Sinn Feiner Though the task is giirantic the upholders\of this clean sweep policy believe it can effectually be done.
