MANAWATU RACING CLUB’S MEETING. On Friday the Manawatu Racing Club will commence its summer meeting, which extends over throe days, and the result loaves no doubt that the fixture will be more than usually successful. Selections take a very wide range, and it seems safe to conclude that keen interest in the various contests will bo maintained throughout. Client, Punka, Kilrush, First Salute and Athens 11. are all in great demand for the Cup, but if there is a surprise in store for those in search of the winner, Demos may crcate .it. Some of the smartest sprinters in the Dominion are engaged in the Fitzhorbort Handicap, and backers are again confronted with a stiff problem._ Acre (9.6), on Feilding form, must bo given a chance, but Onslaught (8.13) looks more attractive, and his toughest opponents may be Jutland and Arrowsmith, while Astinome, Birkcnvale, Chimera and Admyra can be ticked off to make the race interesting. ' As far hs the other events are concerned particularly largo fields will be seen out, while interest will be increased by the fact that the horses are drawn from all parts of the Dominion. The first race starts at 12 noon. Trains leave Palmerston for racecourse as follows: —First day—lo.3s, 10.53 and 11.15 a.m. On second and third days—lo.ss, 11.3 and 11.15, As it is reported Crenidcs has been sold to an Indian sportsnlan, ho will in all probability be taken out of the Cup, in which event he appears to be well' treated. It is understood that Punka, who is reported to bo in excellent fettle, will be piloted by A. Oliver.
