CHALLENGE TAKEN UP.
MONO LIBEL SUITS. LONDON, Dec. 1. Sir Alfred Mond (Fiist Commissioner of Works) has brought a. sul*, for libel against Harry Maeleod Fraser and Henry Hamilton Beamish, members of a African battalion. The libel is alleged to have "been contained iiv a., poster displayed in Fraser's London premises declaring that .Mond was a traitor, and that he sold shares to the Huns during the war. The present action is the aftermath of a prcyious casj in which an injunction wits granted, and the posters were ordered to be removed. It_ is now alleged that a photographed replica was displayed with an additional poster challenging Sir Alfred Mond to takeaction. The defendants pleaded fair comment am public interest. On behalf of the plaintiff, Lord Moulton. Supervisor of High Explosives "at the War Office, said that Sir Alfred Mond placed the services of Brunner, Mond and Co. (of which he was managing director) at the disposal of the War Office in March, 1915. The firm's manufacture of high explosives at low rates very materially assisted to win the war. |'A later cable staled that plaintiff was awarded £SOOO damages.]
