PRINCE'S CEREMONIAL VISITS.
Next year, if present arrangements hold good, the Prince of Wales is to pay a series of ceremonial visits to several, of the European Courts. This is strictly in accordance with precedent, which lays it down that the Heir-appar-ent shall pay these visits as shortly after he reaches the age of 21 as is convenient. When tho late King Edward paid this tour considerable ceremony was observed. travelling in those days on the Continent was nothing like what it is to-day, so that he found it necessary to travel for considerable distances by road, and he had some rather exciting experiences on the way. Upon one occasion when driving in northern Italy the wheel came off the Royal vehicle, and its occupants had a very narrow escape of being thrown over a precipice.
