China has demanded of Japan to apologise for the Foochow riots and despatch Japanese warships thereto. The demands include the recall of the Japanese Consul, the punishment of Formosans of Japanese allegiance foi the killing of Chinese students, •compensation for the latters’ relatives, and the punishment of the Chief of Police, and the prohibition of Japanese merchants carrying arms. It is unlikely that Japan will comply, the authorities asserting that the students wore wholly responsible for the riots.
