A French communique states: The advance continues with marked demonstrations of joy from the populations. The material abandoned by the enemy is increasing, also the number of liberated prisoners. FRENCH ENTER METZ, THE GERMAN PACIFIC COLONIES. NEW YORK, Nov. 19.
The French have entered Metz. The New York Times editorially comments on the Australian Senate s resolution opposing the return of the iacilie Islands to Germany. The Times says it is incredible that Germany should ever ho allowed to recover islands in the Pacific captured by Australia, New Zealand or Japan. Germany wanted possessions m the I acme for coaling stations and naval and an bases, whence she could command and assail the world’s trade routes. New Guinea in German hands would perpetuate the danger to Sydney and the
safety of the trade routes along the northern coast. The natives would bo infinitely better off under Australia. Lord Rosebery once said it was the destiny of Australia to be the trustee ot the Pacific. The Times adds Australia is a trustee who can bo trusted. BELGIANS ENTEF ANTWERP. AMSTERDAM, Nov. 19. Belgian troops entered Antwerp today amid scenes of great enthusiasm. A solemn reception took place at the Stadhans. THE GERMAN - RETIREMENT.
Australian-New Zealand Cable Association AMSTERDAM, Nov. 19. Largo numbers of German troops arc retiring via Dutch Limburg. Lo Temps states that the Dutch Government consented thereto, and thereby constituted a precedent of which the other belligerents will bo justified in taking advantage.
