CAMPBELL STREET SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

A meeting of the Campbell Street School Committee was held last evening. Those present were: Messrs H. f. Canton (chairman), T. H. Hodgson, A. J. Palmer, W. Pickering, A. Mahon, 11. Webb, Nicholls, and M. Witholl. The headmaster’s re]>ort for October stated that the average roll was 720.5, average attendance G7‘2.75, highest attendance 691, and present roll 729. The attendance was well maintained in spite of the bad weather. Most of the rooms are overcrowded now, and the effect will be felt later on as the warm weather approaches. Rvery effort should be made to secure the immediate erection of at least a portion of the new school to relieve the pressure, or the erection of some temporary' shelter, which could be used on fine days for outdoor teaching. The final examination for promotion to standards will take place during the last week of the month ; also the 6th Standard proficiency examination. Thanks are duo to Mr Warden, acting-headmaster, and the staff, who have worked faithfully during my absence. Mr Hodgson referred in glowing terms to the work of Mr P. Larcomb in connection with the swimming baths campaign, and on his motion, it was decided unanimously to forward a letter of thanks and appreciation to Mr Larcomb. Mr Mahon also referred to the valuable work of Mr Hodgson during the campaign, and moved a vote of thanks and appreciation to him, which was carried with acclamation. Tho secretary reported that as a result of the Baby Voting Competition the committee would be enabled to clear tho bank liabilities. It was decided that letters of thanks bo sent to tho Bank guarantors. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Mr Mahon for Ids donation of football caps to the teams during tho interprimary school tournament. Mr j.' A. Carson wrote stating that the accounts re the school baths were now being closed and thanking the committee, the school staff, Borough Council, and others concerned for their loyalty and good fellowship throughout. The headmaster forwarded IDs towards the Baths Fund, collected byHarry Palmer and Cliff Trask on Guy Fawkc’s Day.—Received with thanks. The committee decided to make an inspection of flic school baths and to consider the question of mixed bathing. Accounts amounting to £l2 Os 2d were passed for payment.
