THE OHAKUNE FIRE.

(Piß I'EESB AB800IATIOH.) * TAIHAI'E, Nov. 7. Halt an hour after the alarm was given the Ohakune streets were v n.livo with people. A baud oi volunteer firefighters was quickly organised, but the only water available being a creek near by, the angry flames leaped from building'to building and high into the air, brilliantly illuminating the landscape* and endangering buildings a distance away. Had the wind changed the whole settlement would have been wiped out. Alter the fire-laden wind had lapped up all the buildings in its course- it reached over to the bush, which is stilly burning, but nut menacingly".
