BRIDGING THE MANAWATU.
CONSTRUCTION AT LONGBURN WANTED. An important matter to tlio upper portion of the Mnnawatu district was mentioned by the Mayor (Mr J. A. Nash) at last night's meeting ol the Borongli Council. This was in regard to the nroposed bridging of the Manawatu river at Lbngburn. The Mayor stated that the matter had been under consideration here before, and a conference had been held to discuss the proposal. Plans and specifications had been prepared to provide a flat, road to Tolcomaru, which would he a great boon to this portion of the district, instead of having to proceed via Kilzherbert. Then there would be the carrying out of the electric power installation from Wellington through this district to Wauganui, when the bridge would certainly be wanted. The question was an important one, and' the Government should he approached with the idea of getting something done. The Mayor moved: "That in the opinion of this Council the. time has arrived when renewed action should be taken to have the bridge constructed across the Manawatu river at Longliurn and a road formed for the lines previously agreed upon, and that the following he invited to attend a conference to be arranged by the Mayor: M.P.'s. Kairanga and Horowhenua County Councils, Feilding Borough Council and Chamber of Commerce, Palmerston North Chamber of Commerce, Flaxmillers' Association, settlers of TiOtigburn. Tolcomaru and Shannon, members of (he Palmerston North Borough Council to ho members of the committee." The motion was seconded by Cr. Crabb and carried.
