DEFENCE EXPENDITURE.
THE PRUNING KNIFE. DENTISTS TO GO. The revelations regarding 1 the vastlies:) of the expenditure inclined by the Defence Department recently made iii Parliament are already _ leading to a general enquiry in anticipation of tho commission on expenditure, which it is the intention of the Government to set up at an early date. The pruning knife has fallen on the District Medical Boards, with the result that these bodies no longer perambulate the country with military dentists. The. latter officials have been dispensed with, as from October 31, and the work will bo done m tli<> respective camps. The gentlemen concerned will each be given a month's leave on full pay. Whether they revert to their civilian status or report to camp for duty is not yet known. It is believed that the pruning knife will not stop at this, and further developments may be expected.
