MILITARY SERVICE BOARD.

The hearing of appeals was continued before (lie First Wellington Military Service Board to-day. Mr 1). G. A. Cooper (chairman) presided, the other members being Messrs 1). McLaren and W. Perry. FARM KBS’ APPEAL. In the appeal of George R. B. Kilsby, ' farmer, Palmerston North, a report was received from the Efficiency Trustees. Appellant stated that his uncle was a trustee of the estate, but witness diil not know whether ho could manage it, 'There was a man on the farm who was going into camp in January, Ho also had a brother aged 18 who helped with the general farm work, 'Flu! appeal was dismissed, leave being granted to February 6th, Herbert John Geruschkat, dairy farmer, Hiwimii. stated that his position was the same as at his last appeal. He had one brother in Sling Camp. His parents were born in Germany. Decision was reserved pending a report (rum tho Defence Department. Edward Hay, railway porter, Afarton, whose appeal was formerly adjourned on account of his wife’s health, stated that her condition was about the same. Tho appeal was further adjourned to the January sitting of the Board. Thomas Leslie, railway porter, Marlon, who was before the Board on October 3rd, asked for a further extension of time. In tho appeal of John Power, solicitor, Eeilding (Mr Cooper), tho Board reserved iis decision sine die. CLASSED C2. The following were classed C2 and formally dismissed.—Harold O’Sullivan, actor, Palmerston North; Frederick Fear by Knowles, farmer, Longburn. Adjourned for medical examination.— William MeFarlano, buttermaker, had his appeal adjourned till next sittings in order to allow appellant to bo medically examined. THE EFFICIENCY TRUSTEES. Walter Sidney Page, farmer, Halcombo whose appeal was adjourned from Ist of October for report of the Efficiency Trustees, was again before the Board to-day. Appellant stated that the man whom the Efficiency Trustees had recommended had left home when he was about 20. He then joined the railway, where he stayed for 10 years, after which he went milking on his own account. To appellant’s knowledge ho had never managed a place himself. The man was aged 40, had two children, and was at present working for a Waituna farmer, for whom ho did a certain amount of supervising. Appellant said that his own position was the same as at his last appeal. I [is only employee would come of age next month, and would probably enlist. Witness’s lather was 74 years of age and did no work whatever. To (‘apt. Walker; Tho. Efficiency Trustees might consider the man they had recommended to be capable, but witness did not. The Trustees were probably capable enough men —they wore men who farmed for pleasure, and had to justify their existence.

Cant. Walker: The first interests of the Efficiency Trustees are to keep up the production of the country. In their opinion the man they have recommended is capable of managing your place. Appellant': I don’t consider him so.

Mr McLaren: The best farmer in one of these districts is a man who was formerly a tramway inspector.

Appellant further stated that he had 80 acres under the plough. He also had a brother at Eketahuna and one at To Kuiti, both of whom were engaged in sheep farming, but knew nothing of agricultural work. The Board reserved its decision.
