Competitions vc'ro carried on in the nftiMneoii, whilst the ,icle-sliows, of which there was » preceptible ailing oil' in number, found plenty o\ pal.■cms. As an exhibition of the district s re-,(jur<-is\ the Show was a pronounced success, ind had the fixture been better favoured in be matter of weather, that success would iave undoubtedly been grently enhanced. THE GRAND PARADE. The weather cleared early yesterday aftcr.loon, and a clear sky was "showing when ,he parade of the pri/.c-uinning horses and cattle was commenced. The attendance had • welled rapidly, and two o'clock found the ,tands and ringside crowded, reminiscent. I ,1 the best Shows of former years. The parade is undoubtedly the most imposing spectacle of the Show. a nd yesterday's exhibition was a really fine one. and no less than half an hour elapsed before the whole of ;he procession had reached the ring, the cattle breeds led the way. all being represented by magnificent types of llorefords. Jerseys, Friesians, Shorthorns, _ Ayrslnres, etc., from aged cattle to yearlings, and a splendid showing thev made. Thoroughbred and saddle horses and ponies, followed bv light luirness hoi'ses, was another good section, and Humbert of them had evidently many previous successes ill the show ring judging by the numerous award cards which they carried, one upstanding harness animal having full;, fifty in number. The draughts formed (lie next section, the stallions principally from Donald's Lstale, being fine samples „f the Clydesdale breed. Working draughts and lorry team,, and tradesmen's turnouts completed the parade, and the whole procession was finally grouped in front of the stand, forming a collection of aristocrats of the horse and cattle breeds that i.-. not ofie,, seen in this island, land must rank with the best that has come | together on the Manawatu A. and P. The champion open hunters' competition. which concluded the jumping events, served to add fresh laurels to that fine hunter. Mickev Free, who was ridden bv his owner, Mr 11. Hassall. The course was set over eight hurdles, which included ;i wire fence. the double brush, and the water jump. Thirty horses were entered for the event. and twenty-seven were sent round. Despite the sodden nature of the ground, the fene ink was splendid, and (lie water jump occasioned the only spill, which incurred to Lofty. The horse blundered, and crashed through the brush, sending his rider first into the water and then himself rolling over and over in the slimy pool. The rider escaped with nothing worse than a mud bath. Tl vent was decided in t\t<' only good spell of line weather a! the Show, and resulted : - • 11. Hassall's (Tomoaniil Mickev Free ... 1 .1. .7.
