NGARUAHOE IN ERUPTION.

(Pus Phesh Association.) AUCKLAND, Oct. 26. After many signs of activity, Mt. Ngaruahoe broke out into violent eruption last week, culminating in an alarming outburst. On Tuesday night huge black clouds of ashes and steam, with tongues of lurid flame; were seen in the early part of the evening issuing from the crater to tho accompaniment of the deep rumbles of subterranean explosions. Earth tremors were frequently felt, causing a good deal of apprehension in the. native settlements near tin' base of tin l mountain. A large area ol open country, on the windward side, together with the snow fields of Tongarirn, have been covered with a deposit nt light pumice ash. The night staff at Waimarino railway station and residents who witnessed the displays on Saturday and Tuesday nights state that Ngaruahoe has never before shown Mull unabated violence. Clouds have obscured the tipper heights of the volcano for the last few days, and though an occasional rumble is heard, it is impossible to say if the. eruption continues mi the same scale.
