The Wairarapa Farmers’ stock department report on the Masterton cattle fair held yesterday a s under;—An exceptionally heavy yarding was submitted to tho public, considerably in excess of advertised numbers, over ‘3OOO head coming forward, which taxed the yards to their utmostcapacity, several lots of the younger cattle having to he accommodated in the sheep pons. Generally speaking, the yarding can he described as creditable to the Wairarapa district ; in fact, such a large entry of grown cattle, comprising many station lines in forward condition, with quality predominating throughout, is seldom seen nowadays, and the public were not slow t ) appreciate same. The dairy strain was certainly in evidence in the sheep yards, and while tho “Taranaki roans” were somewhat out of place in a fair of this nature, a considerable turnover resulted. The attendance was large, but buyers from a distance were not prominent, and, taken as a. whole, prices, quality considered, were hardly up to expectations. We yarded on behalf of “Braiicepeth” and “Annedale” stations same exceptionally well-bred forward conditioned bullocks, the drafting of winch was favourably commented upon, and whilst, some of the pens were passed atauction, a total clearance was subs qiientlv made at prices satisfactory to vendors.
