SIX O'CLOCK CLOSING.
CONFERENCE AGREES UPON AMENDMENTS. TIIE BILL PASSES. (Fib Pbess Association.) WELLINGTON, Oct. 22. After another conference between the managers from the two Houses, an agreement was reached regarding the disputed clauses of the Sale of Liquor Restriction Bill. The conference adopted a new clause providing that ill hotels, or chartered clubs where a substantial evening meal is regularly served, in a dining room regularly set apart and used as a dining room, liquor may be served between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. to persons partaking of the evening meal, the liquor to be consumed as part of the meal and not otherwise. This agreement was reported to the Council during the evening. The Hon. Bell said he believed the safeguards were sufficient to prevent dining rooms becoming mere drinking shops. The meal had to be a substantial one, and the liquor had to be consumed as part of the. meal. The Council approved, by thirteen votes to three.
