THE DESCENT ON ITALY.
Received December 2, 12.15 p.m. LONDON. Dec. 1. 'flic Daily Telegraph's Rome correspondent says the contemplated German! offensive on the Italian front is widely small portion of the Italian territory" discussed. The Anstrians retain only a small portion ol the Italian territory into which they advanced corresponding with a radius dominated by the Austrian forts from Sommealto to Lava roue. Preparations arc being carrvd on with great activity and indicate thai, i the Germans contemplate an offensive of a wider range. A short railway is corn- | pleted between Egnaca and Valcse, and is being rapidly extended to Predazzo. This suggests an extensive offensive in | the Dolomite, region where the Italians J have taken up a strong position. At ("ol Brioon and Monte Cauriol two diof Austritins have already arrived, and tlie proclamations oi the divisional commanders told the soldiers that they must be prepared to shed the last, drop of their blood to prevent the Italians entering the heart of the Trentino. The Italian lines are incomparably stronger and hotter prepared than in May.
