TOAST LIST OBJECTED TO.

HOTELKEEPER ASKED FOR EXPLANATION.

(Per Press Association.)

AUCKLAND. Sept. 4. At the quarterly meeting of the Parnell Licensing Committee to-day. a number of clergymen attended and objected to a leaflet issued by a hotelkeeper and distributed at a football match. Canon McMurray read a number of toasts which were printed on the back of the leaflet. The reader was enjoined to "read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest."' The toasta were commented upon as being suggestive of indecency, if not positively indecent themselves, and not at all food for tho morals of young people. Canon McMurray and his colleagues submitted that the person who issued such a document was not fit to conduct a licensed house. After discussion, it was decided to adjourn tho matter for a week, and call upon th« licensee in question to appear before the committee.
