WELLINGTON, May 11. The' territorial camp at Trentham concluded on Saturday, and about eighty of the men marched into Wellington. Sixty men finished the twentyone miles, which were covered in four and a half hours, which was a very good performance, in full marching order. The odd twenty men began to feel the effects of the merry pace by the time they reached Lower Hutt and Petone, and took to the train for the rest of the journey.
ASHBURTON, May 11. The first sale of property in the Ashburton County under the Land Settlement Finance Act of 1909 has just been effected, the Government having notified Messrs Kelman and Co. of its intention to acquire their farm of 860 acres at Lowcliffe, about twenty miles from Ash burton.
INVERCARGILL, May 11
The body of Frank Peterson, a prosoner who was drowned in the estuary on Friday afternoon, was recovered on Saturday.
Snow fell in the early hours of Saturday morning, and covered the ground to a depth of two inches. During Saturday there were occasional spells of sunshine, but the weather was cold. All sports fixtures were postponed. Saturday half-holidav is now being observed by mo6t of the professional and commercial firms in Invercargill. Retailers, however, continue to observe the half-holiday on Wednesday.
